Self-pay

Fastest route in. Prices £4k–£25k+ for 28 days depending on tier. Some clinics offer 3–12 month payment plans.

Private health insurance

Bupa, AXA, Aviva, Vitality — most policies cover 28 days at network clinics. Workplace schemes are the most common route.

Employer EAP

Confidential from your employer. Health Assured, Vita, LifeWorks and similar EAPs offer short counselling + private-rehab referrals.

NHS + local authority

Free but rationed. Referral via community drug/alcohol services. Typically 3–6 month wait. Prioritised for severe dependence + risk.

Benefits (PIP, ESA, UC)

Slow but valid. PIP can be awarded for addiction where daily living is affected. UC housing element covers accommodation during residential rehab.

Court-ordered (DRR/ATR)

Drug Rehabilitation Requirements and Alcohol Treatment Requirements are part of a community sentence. Free, but requires court engagement.

100% confidential

Common questions

Can I get NHS-funded residential rehab?

Yes but it's rationed. You need a referral from community drug/alcohol services and an assessment for local-authority-funded placement. Waiting lists are typically 3–6 months. Most beds go to people with severe dependence, dual-diagnosis, or homelessness risk.

Which UK health insurers cover rehab?

Bupa, AXA, Aviva and Vitality all cover addiction treatment on most plans, usually 28 days at an approved network clinic. WPA and The Exeter also cover it. Most workplace group schemes include it. Coverage depends on the exact plan and moratorium terms — we can check for you.

Can my employer pay for rehab?

Many large UK employers offer Employee Assistance Programmes (Health Assured, Vita, LifeWorks) that include short-term counselling and referrals to private rehab. Some companies fund the treatment directly under sickness policies. Your enquiry to us is confidential — nothing goes to your employer.

What benefits can help with addiction treatment?

PIP (Personal Independence Payment) can be awarded for addiction if it substantially affects daily living, though it's a slow route. ESA supports people unable to work. Universal Credit can be combined with a housing element during residential rehab. Local-authority Housing Support may cover accommodation costs after discharge.

Is court-ordered rehab a real option?

Yes. Drug Rehabilitation Requirements (DRR) and Alcohol Treatment Requirements (ATR) can be part of a community sentence in England and Wales. They're free to the person but require court engagement. Your solicitor or probation officer can request an assessment.

Can I pay for rehab in instalments?

Some UK clinics offer 3–12 month payment plans, especially the mid-market group. Others accept credit-card, remortgage or short-term personal loans. We can point you to clinics that offer instalments if self-pay is tight.
