How much does private rehab cost in the UK?

Typical UK inpatient rehab in 2026 costs £4,000–£8,000 for 28 days at mid-market clinics, £10,000–£20,000+ at premium clinics like the Priory or Castle Craig, and £25,000+ at luxury/specialist providers. Detox-only stays (5–10 days) start around £2,500.

Is NHS rehab free?

NHS outpatient addiction treatment is free everywhere in the UK — via community drug and alcohol services (usually delivered by Change Grow Live, We Are With You or Turning Point). NHS-funded residential rehab exists but is rationed via local-authority assessment and waiting lists are usually 3–6 months.

Will private health insurance cover rehab?

Bupa, Aviva, AXA and Vitality all cover addiction treatment on most policies, subject to a clinical assessment and moratorium terms. Coverage typically runs 28 days at an approved network clinic. Employer group schemes are the most common route in.

Can I use my employer's EAP for rehab?

Most large UK employer EAPs (Health Assured, Vita, LifeWorks) offer short-term counselling and can fast-track a private rehab referral. Your enquiry is confidential from your employer.

What's the difference between mid-market and luxury rehab?
