Common questions
What is AUDIT-C?▾
AUDIT-C is the 3-question short form of the WHO Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test. UK GPs and NHS drug and alcohol services use it as a first-line screen for risky drinking. It takes under a minute and scores from 0–12.
What score is 'positive'?▾
A score of 5+ in men and 4+ in women is considered a positive screen for at-risk drinking. 8+ suggests likely alcohol use disorder and warrants a full AUDIT and clinical assessment.
Should I do AUDIT-C or the full AUDIT?▾
AUDIT-C is a quick screen. If you score positive, do the full 10-question AUDIT for a more detailed picture — we have that too.
